Lighting’s Chic at Cliq

Issue Date:  February 2008

Showroom`
Opened on Jan. 28, 2007, by owners Thomas Sorenson and Peter Skaaning, Cliq Creative Lighting is Hawaii’s premier lighting showroom.

More than 200 different lamps at the Honolulu Design Center light up Kapiolani Boulevard at night, drawing in passersby. Many of these traditional and contemporary designer lights, located in the Cliq Creative Lighting Showroom, cannot be found in any other store in Hawaii. In fact, Cliq is the only place in the state, and one of the few in the nation, where you can find designer lighting by Artemide, Flos, Foscarini, Moooi, Oggetti Luce and Rezek—all under one roof.
Curtishokama
Salesperson Curtis Hokama is the go-to guy at Cliq.

Artemide, Foscarini and the others date back to the ’50s and ’60s. These handblown, Venetian and Murano glass masterpieces are the real McCoy, says salesperson Curtis Hokama. “There are no knock-offs here, and no two are alike,” he states. During his time at Cliq over the past year, Hokama has learned just how special these lamps are. In that short time, he has met people from all over the world who are familiar with the six Italian designers and can cite specific models by name.

“For example, the Arco floor light is known around the world. It has been in a lot of science-fiction movies,” Hokama says.

Alongside the designer styles, which stretch the imagination as well as the wallet, Cliq also features many traditional lights on its second floor. Styles of lighting at Cliq include sconces, ceiling mounts, chandeliers and portables, plus table lamps and floor lamps. But don’t worry about the options—the showroom’s friendly sales staff is on hand to help homeowners find just the light they’re looking for.

While perusing lighting, don’t miss Cliq’s trendy monorail systems, which are similar to track lighting. The difference is that, unlike tracks, monorails are suspended from the ceiling, and the attached lights can have varying drop lengths. Pendants and mini-pendants provide either a down light or an up light. Another option, an architectural headlight, works like a pendant, except it can tilt and swivel.

Cliq’s lighting provides plenty of eye candy and can add drama to any space. It’s for those who wish to see and be seen. “It’s your Louis Vuitton, your Prada, your Chanel,” Hokama says. “It’s your designer name for lights.”
